The Chinmaya Vidyalaya management, which had collected fees from students admitted under Right To Education (RTE) quota, reimbursed the money to them.

The school had not only collected Rs 12,685 last year from RTE students but also issued a challan of about Rs 18,900 to each one of them. These included tuition fee of Rs 3,600 for June 2013 to May 2014, special fee of Rs 3,500, maintenance fund of Rs 6,000, Rs 1,850 for books and notebooks, Edurite fee of Rs 1,600, sports fee of Rs 750, computer education 500 and social activities fee of Rs 500.

Deccan Herald had carried a report — 'School faces flak for asking RTE kids to pay up' on April 27. As the department of public instruction began its inquiry following the news report, the school stopped pursuing RTE students to pay fees and asked the parents to take their money back, which they had paid last year. In the second week of May, the school paid Rs 12,685 to the parents of each of the students.

The school told the parents that they had some confusion regarding the provisions of RTE, due to which they had to collect fees, but they never intended to violate the RTE norms.
