The schools reopened on Monday for children after the summer holidays. Most of the schools wore a festive look, with buntings put up by teachers as a welcome sign for the children.

Kodagu has 495 government, private and aided schools.  Even though a thin attendance was recorded on the first day of the academic year, the children were enthusiastic to return to school. Teachers opined that the attendance of students will be regular from June 1.

The official school reopening festival will be held at the Field Marshal K M Cariappa College on June 2.

The programme will be attended by MLA Appacchu Ranjan, Members of the Legislative Council Veena Acchaiah and Sunil Subramani, Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza, Zilla Panchayat president B A Harish and chief executive officer Charulatha Somal.

This time, the SSLC results of the district have escalated the district to the 9th position from the 18th position last year, which has made the Department of Public Instructions officials joyful.
