Science mela opens a world of wonders to studentsMiracle of knowledge

The mela was held at the Girls High School in the town. Interactive sessions on science subjects, plays, essay competition, sky watch, screening of science documentaries, mock fire drill, jathas, health education, exposing ‘miracles’ and blind beliefs and quiz competitions were part of the science extravaganza.

Science communicator, Prof M R Nagaraju, said: “It is not enough to screen science documentaries and scientific models. The habit of questioning should be imbibed among the students.”

Students from 18 schools took part in the essay competition on science and technology. J V Harikrishna and J Harikrishna of the Government PU College won the first prize, while Shivakumar and S N Ganesh of the Achepalli Cross Government High School won the second prize.

M Srilakshmi and Navya K Reddy of the Pragathividya Institutions of Teemakapalli won the third prize. Models prepared by students of 26 schools were demonstrated at the exhibition. 

The models were about varied topics like environmental pollution, health education, anatomy of animals, information technology, rocket science, solar energy and eclipses.

Mathematical models were also exhibited at the mela. Students of Poleramma High School exhibited the model of a live volcano. The personnel of the fire department held a live demonstration to explain the functioning of the department.

The Govt Pre-University College won the first prize in the quiz competition. Young India School and the Paragodu Government High School won the second and third prizes.
