The sea erosion continued in Ullal on Tuesday. The Ullal CMC has served notices to all house owners who failed to shift to the safer areas.

There are over 150 houses in Kaiko, Hileriyanagara, and Mukkachery, of which 35 families have shifted on Monday.

Waves are hitting 35 more houses. The water has entered the courtyard of the houses. Inspite of houses not conducive for living, many have failed to shift to gruel centres as per the direction of the Tahsildar.

As a result, the Ullal City Municipal Council officials have served notices to the inmates of the houses who failed to shift. Ullal VA Pramod said that Kumki land has been identified at Amblamogaru and Pavoor villages for families effected by sea erosion. The file is before the deputy commissioner for approval.

Sameer, a local resident said, “It is scary to sit inside the house. Water has entered the houses. The officials and elected representatives inspect sea erosion and leave the spot. Any permanent solution is still a distant dream for us. We are ready to shift if the authorities sanction land in Ullal.”

Ismail, another victim, said, “The work on the breakwater has remained incomplete. I have been residing in the region for the last 35 years, yet I do not have any proper documents.”
