A protest has been planned, on February 22, demanding the Centre and the state government not to alter backward classes 2A Category, said Brahmananda Saraswati Swami of Ujire Sriram Kshetra.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by the Backward Classes 2A Forum here, the seer said, “If Panchamasali Lingayat sub-sect is included under 2A Category, the quantum of reservation for the category has to be increased. The Union government should keep this in mind, he said.

On the Panchamasali quota struggle led by two seers of the community, the Ujire mutt seer said, “Sanyasis should not spearhead any people’s struggle. Instead, they should work towards uplifting the downtrodden.”

“Including the dominant communities/castes under some backward classes categories to serve the vested interests is not just. The dominant castes within the category will enjoy all benefits at the cost of smaller communities. All political parties should stop indulging in appeasement politics,” the seer said.
