Udupi: A single tap on an APK file on WhatsApp has cost Udupi senior citizen of losing Rs 3,83,800.

In a complaint, 69-year-old K Jayaram said that he had received an APK file on WhatsApp on November 28.

Upon clicking the file, an amount totaling Rs 3,83,800 was fraudulently transferred from various savings accounts linked to Jayaram into the accused's account.

The complainant became aware of the unauthorised transactions only after receiving an alert message later in the day.

Jayaram has filed a complaint at CEN station in Udupi, and a case has been registered under Sections 66 D of IT ACT and 318(2) of Bharartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
