Seven arrested for moral policing

The police arrested seven persons for allegedly coming in the way of a group of youths of a community visiting the house of their friend, on account of a festival at Renja in Bettampady of Puttur on Wednesday.

According to SP Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda, the arrested are Shesappa, Rukma , Sathish Karnappady, autorickshaw driver Ganesh, Kunhi, Duggappa and Purushotham.

It is said that the group of youths (boys and girls hailing from different communities) from Mangaluru had alighted from a bus at Renja and hired an autorickshaw to visit their friend’s house. When the autorickshaw driver sought to know the reason for their visit, the students reportedly said that it is in connection with the festival.

The driver then abused the youths. Later, around 10 persons surrounded the youths and began abusing their religion and attempted to hurt religious sentiments. In the melee, the group also assaulted a youth. The injured youth was later sent to a hospital by the police. The police, who rushed to the spot, filed a suo motu case against those who tried to disrupt the harmony. Later, the youths visited their friend’s house.

Six in police net

The Bajpe Police arrested six persons for allegedly assaulting a man mistaking him as a child lifter at Guru Kambala in Bajpe on August 19. The arrested are Sheik Rizwan, Mohammed Imthiyaz, Azmal Khan, Mohammed Imran, Mohammed Irfan and Shah Nawaz Dharmasthala.

Hamza along with his friend Tausif was seeking alms in the houses in the wake of a festival. On seeing Hamza distributing chocolates to children, the men mistook him as child lifter.

Man arrested

The police arrested a man on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl at Dharmasthala police station jurisdiction. The arrested is Mohammed Rafiq. The case was registered under Pocso act against him on May 29. He was absconding.
