Seven people, including three of a family, were killed after a multiutility vehicle (MUV) and a truck collided near Devarahipparagi in the taluk on Sunday.

The deceased had been identified as Nabilal Imam Sab Kasaba (55), his wife, Khwaja Bi Nabilal Kasaba (40), their daughter Lathifa Nabilal Kasaba (19), Basavaraj C Buyyara (40), a police constable, Gangabai Kasappa Metagara (40), Rakshita Chandrakanta Uppara (8) and Mahibubsab.

According to police, seven were injured in the accident, five of whom were admitted to Government Hospital in Bijapur. The remaining two injured are being treated at Devarahipparagi hospital. Fourteen people were in the multiutility vehicle while the truck was transporting cement from Shahabad to Bijapur.

Senior police officers visited the spot. Devarahipparagi police have registered a case.
