Residents of the area behind Rambhapuri Kalyan Mantap at Vidyanagar, in Ward No 35, are hit by the mosquito menace, as sewage water is flowing in the Nala (storm water drainage) there.

When MLC Basavaraj Horatti visited the area on Monday, residents of an apartment adjacent to the Nala lamented that mosquitoes in large numbers invade the houses in evening hours, while stench is also causing serious inconvenience.

"This problem has remained unsolved since several years. Officials should not have allowed diversion of sewage water from houses to the Nala. The problem should be solved at least now," residents said.

They also lamented that cleaning workers demand money for collecting garbage, but do not discharge their duties effectively.

When Mr Horatti asked the Hubbali-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) officials to divert the sewage water flowing in the Nala to the underground drainage network, HDMC Zonal Officer Anandkumar Jhalaki assured to solve the sewage water problem within a week.

Mr Horati also asked the HDMC officials to conduct fogging every day.

Corporator Rajanna Koravi, and others were present.
