Speaking after releasing 10 books published by Shivaratreeshwara Dharmika Datti in an event held at JSS Law College here on Wednesday, Kalburgi said: “Buddhism, Jainism, Vaidika and Agamika religions migrated to India from elsewhere. But, Sharana dharma was born right here and was nurtured by people who lived in the region -- the Kannadigas.
This dharma is something Kannadigas must be proud about. It is being documented and propagated effectively by establishing Shivaratreeshwara Endowment Trust, by way of publishing books on the genesis of the religion, along with organising workshop and seminars to find more insights into this.” “Research is not just about digging deep into the pages of history. It is the struggle which will examine contemporary truths against the inherent beliefs.
Many a times I have received blows while attempting to examine beliefs against the truths. But, today, when I receive the honour and hear words of encouragement, they are filling me with renewed energy,” he added.
Manu Baligar of Kannada and Culture Department, who also spoke on the occasion, said vachanas being translated to French language was a significant step with regard to propagation of vachanas. “It is tough to capture the essence of vachanas in French. Yet, scholar Vasundhara has managed it since she has great command over the language, enabling others to study the vachanas and discover their richness,” he said.
Suttur Seer Shivaratri Deshikendra presided over the function. University of Mysore Prasaranga director C Naganna, Paris-based French Academy member Dr P S Philioza, writer Dr Prabhushankar and others were present. Writers of the books were also felicitated on the occasion.
