Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that the Bengaluru deputy commissioner had been directed to look for a piece of land to be sanctioned to the federation of sheep and goat rearers’ co-operative associations.

He informally inaugurated the federation at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. He said the federation had sought 10 acres of land in Bengaluru. Hence, the deputy commissioner had been asked to locate a suitable land, he added.

Siddaramaiah said modern slaughter houses had been planned in every district to provide quality sheep meat.

As per the World Health Organisation, a human being should consume 11 kg meat per year to get sufficient protein. But in India, the average consumption is 5.5 kg. The government is trying to give a brand image to meat and sell it, he added.
