The first phase of the road work at Shiradi Ghat stretch is expected to be complete by August 15.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel,  reviewing the concretisation work at Shiradi Ghat, on Tuesday, directed officials to complete the concretisation of pending 1.6 km of road and make the road available for plying of vehicles from August 15.

Briefing reporters, he said the work, which started on January 2, was expected to be completed by June 1. However, the work was hindered due to rains and curvy structure of the road.

Regarding quality of work, he said the report by the third party has said quality of work was good. In the first phase, 11.4 km of 13 km road development work is over and 1.6 km work is pending. The work has been slowed down by heavy rains in the month of April.

The work on bridges has also been completed. About 300 to 400 metre concreting work is being carried out per day. At this pace, the pending work is estimated to be completed in 13 days he said adding, according to him, it might get completed by August 15.

But there is no question of building any pressure on the authority concerned as quality of work was equally important and hence work will not be hastened up unnecessary.

Approval awaited

Quite interestingly, it may be noted that Ocean Constructions, who have taken up the work on the stretch, has time till November 23, 2015 to complete the work as per contract. However, the company is trying to complete 18 months’ work in just six months with best available materials and imported machinery, according to company directors.

Nalin said the approval for second phase of work from Addahole to B C Road, is awaited from ministry. Two companies have bid for the same and work is likely to be taken up after December.

NH Assistant Executive Engineer Prasanna Kumar said material stock is ready and there are no hindrances other than rain. He also said sacks filled with gravel stones, will be used for side filling (shoulder) on a temporary basis.

At present, only local traffic is allowed for people dwelling in nearby areas and the route is open only for ambulances and school vehicles.
