However, there is shortage of ‘D’ grade employees at Amrithmahal species breeding centre.
Statistics
The kaval is spread in 794 acre land. However, to look after 244 cattle, there are only six employees. Of which, four of them are tender employees, two are daily wage labourers, three are ‘D’ grade employees. About 25 posts are lying vacant in Kaval for the last 25 years.
According to officials, of 794 acre land, only 34 acre are used for cultivating.
Government has not released a pie for the development of Kaval so far.
From the annual grant from department of Animal Husbandry, the Kaval office uses Rs 4.5 lakh for its maintenance. The cattle are left in open during night.
From the time of of Vijayanagara empire, Amrut Mahal has been preserving the originality of the species.
Species
At present indigenous species of cattle like Madanasara, Burudesara, Gange, Buruderangi, Namadhari, Bhadri, Golagundi, Gulaganji, Cauvery, Belligejje, Kati, Menase, Devagiri, Gidaganni, Muthaide, Kariakka, Bili Basavi, Sanni, Bhoosidi, Bannadasara, Channakka, Shivani, Ranganatha, Mudre, Channabasavi, Sannamallige, Kalingaraya, Benkimani, Narayani, Chandrika, Mauli, Pathre, Kendavari, Marakere, Mailari, Byataraya, Okkalaganti, Buruderanga, Gosi, Galikere, Kempalakki, Dundumavu, Menasi, Bori, Namadhari. Chandrika, Chunchanagiri, Hanumi, Gange, Obaladevi are found in the Kaval.
The annual identification of all the indigenous species are called mustering, which was held on Thursday.
