Shruti murder case: One arrested

One more person was arrested for murder of Shruti alias Smurti by Nazarbad police here on Monday. The accused has been identified as Shivu, 22, son of Prakash of
Hadya in K R Nagar taluk, Mysore district.

Smriti was allegedly murdered by her brother Mahadeva on March 13 for marrying a boy of different caste. Shivu, who was the cousin of both Shruti and Mahadeva, had assisted the latter in the murder. Shivu was picked up by police at Shanivarasanthe in Kodagu district on Saturday.

Smriti and Sudeep Kumar an assistant director at the department of physical education in
Tumkur University had married at the office of sub-registrar here on November last.

However, both the families knew only about their affair, as the two had decided to keep it a secret. Smriti’s brother Mahadeva who was seething against Smriti for courting Sudeep Kumar had been forcing her to severe ties, but to no avail. Enraged, he strangled her to death on March 13.
Suicide
A homemaker allegedly committed suicide at Ashokapuram here on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Anusha (20), wife of Maheshgiri, a constable with the City Armed Reserve (CAR). Sources said that harassment for dowry is the cause of death. Ashokapuram police have registered a case.
Prostitution: 4 arrested
City crime branch (CCB) sleuths arrested four persons on charges of prostitution at
Ramakrishna Nagar E and F Block here on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths raided a house in Ramakrishna Nagar and arrested Ratnamma, Kajal alias Hima, Myna and auto driver Chandrashekar alias Raghu.

Police seized Rs 8,000 in cash, four mobile phones and a Tata Indica car. Police said that Ratnamma and Raghu were using a rented house for the prostitution racket.
