Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation G M Siddeshwara said here on Sunday that plans to set up a pilot training centre either in Davangere or Chitradurga, were in the offing.

Speaking to presspersons during his first visit to his hometown after assuming office, he said he had not yet spoken to the heads of the district administration in this regard, due to the model code of conduct on account of Legislative Council polls.

He said a suitable land would be identified in Davangere or Chitradurga for setting up the centre.

The minister said possibilities were being explored to set up an airport in Davangere. “Though setting up an airport will not help common people, it will boost tourism, attract investors and generate job opportunities in the region,” he said.

Siddeshwara promised to complete all works pertaining to the Railway department, including operating an inter-city train from Harihar to Bangalore and completing the Davangere-Chitradurga-Tumkur direct line track development works.
