It seems the long-pending demand for rail connectivity between Mysore and Kushalnagar is the first priority of the newly-elected Mysore and Kodagu MP Prathap Simha.
Participating in a felicitation programme, organised by various units of the BJP, in the city, on Sunday, on being elected as the Lok Sabha member, Simha said, he is preparing a proposal in this regard, to be submitted to Union Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.
Simha said, he was deeply moved when a farmer in Hunsur taluk ended his life. When vetted into the reasons behind his extreme step, the spectre of problems surrounding tobacco growers came to be known.
Simha claimed that he intervened by asking the Tobacco Board to renew the licence of all tobacco growers. The deadline to renew the licence was extended to a fortnight.
Double standards
He clarified that though the government is strongly vouching for a ban on tobacco, it is practicing double standards by setting a target (in production) for the farmers.
Simha promised that he was committed towards the development of tourism in Mysore city. He, however said, he fears the large expectations of the people, rather than opposition party. “People want to perform in five years, outdoing the drawbacks of 60 long years,” Simha said, but he was confident of meeting the people’s expectations. City BJP president and former MLA E Maruthirao Pawar said, people supported the BJP hoping that Mysore will be developed on the lines of Paris, besides interlinking Ganga and Cauvery rivers.
Office soon
Simha said, he will be opening his office on the premises of Jaladarshini Guest House on Hunsur road, in the city, on June 15.
