Soldier's body laid to restAireera Nanjappa was killed in a road mishap on Tuesday

Born to Palangappa and Akkamma couple, he was working as a Hawaldar in MEG Regiment, New Delhi.

On Tuesday morning he was riding a two-wheeler from his house and was heading to practice hockey, when a vehicle collided with his two-wheeler. He suffered serious head injuries in the mishap and breathed his last in the hospital.
His body was flown to Bangalore on Wednesday and on Thursday the body was brought to the district through Anechaukuru Gate.

Tahshildar Hanumanthappa offered floral tribute to the soldier on behalf of taluk administration. The body was kept for public viewing near martyr’s memorial. The soldier was given guard of honour by the police department.

District Airi Community President Melthanda Gopal, Vice-President Ponnira Gagan, Secretary Ravi Uthappa and others paid their tribute to the soldier on behalf of the Airi community. Later, the body was flown to the native place of the soldier, Churial village near Kedamallur. Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah visited the spot and later consoled the family members.  Nanjappa has been serving MEG Regiment, New Delhi for the last 22 years. He was supposed to be promoted on September 1. He is survived by his wife Veena, daughter Roshni and son Anjan who have been residing with him in New Delhi. His mother Akkamma was residing in Churial.
