Bengaluru: The Karnataka Souharda Co-operative (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was defeated in the Legislative Council on Wednesday, embarrassing the Congress Government, was cleared in the Council on Friday.
The Bill was defeated as the Opposition BJP and JD(S) raised objections over some of the amendments proposed to Co-operative societies, including maintaining a statutory liquid ratio of 20% and designating cooperative societies as ‘statutory liquid assets’.
However, as the bill was approved in the Legislative Assembly, the same was returned to the Council on Friday and was cleared without a debate.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil placed the Bill again in the House again and Chairman Basavaraj Horatti announced that the Bill was passed.
