Superintendent of police Nisha James said a special squad will be set up to counter illegal sand mining and other activities in the district.
Nisha was participating in the phone-in programme held at her office on Friday.
She said she will herself lead the squad which will also include experts.
She urged the public to fearlessly inform the Police Department about irregularities taking place in the district.
She urged the Mines and Geology Department officials to join hands with the police in preventing the illegal sand mining activities. All necessary steps will be taken to solve complaints on sand mining which has gone unchecked at Shankaranarayana, Gangolli and Byndoor, she added.
A woman complained that contact numbers have not been displayed inside the buses for women to call during
distress.
