He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the state-level day and night football tournament organised at the Jaibharath Football Club in the town. “Parents must ensure that their children inculcate an interest in sports from childhood. Chikkaballapur was well-known for football and has created many stars in the past. But this should not remain as mere history and should be recreated by organising tournaments every year,” he advised.

Legislator K P Bacchegowda seconded the minister’s opinion and added that a constant exercise needs to be undertaken to identify talented sportspersons.

“Opportunities need to be created for the talented ones, only then can Chikkaballapur reclaim its past glory,” he added.

City Municipal Council president M Prakash remarked that a healthy mind can exist only in a healthy body. “Therefore, it is imperative that people focus on maintaining a healthy body,” he said.

Shafiullah of the Jaibharath Football Club was felicitated at the occasion.
