The state Congress on Sunday decided to petition the Election Commission of India (ECI) urging it to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system with Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in the coming state Assembly election.

The party took the decision in order to prevent misuse of EVMs, if any, during the polls. The state Congress will soon submit a memorandum in this regard to the Office of Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka.

KPCC officer-bearers, who held a meeting on Sunday, passed a resolution in this regard. "The BJP had misused EVMs in elections held recently in some states. We have to be careful about it," KPCC president G Parameshwara told the office-bearers.
