Karnataka has received deficient rains in July. The State, which was to receive average rainfall of 117 mm up to July 13, received only 45 mm rainfall.

In June, however,  Karnataka received 199 mm against the average of 117 mm, Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad told the Legislative Council on Thursday.

But between June 1 and July 13, the average received just 244 mm as against 312 mm, showing a shortfall of 22 per cent.

Energy Minister D K Shivakumar told the Council that there was shortage of 8-10 per cent of power in the State.

The Energy minister  said that the demand was growing by 10 per cent every year on an average. As a result, the government was forced to purchase power. DH News Service
