The CPI, Karnataka and seven other organisations staged a protest across the State on Monday demanding the immediate release of JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar who has been arrested on charges of sedition. The activists of All India Trade Union Congress, All India Youth Federation and All India Students Federation participated in the protest.

“The BJP is trying to gain entry into universities - be it HCU in Hyderabad or JNU in Delhi even though universities should be autonomous and independent organizations. The arrest of Kanhaiya is part of the political agenda of the BJP. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has levelled allegations without any inquiry,” said Dr Siddanagouda Patil, National Council member of CPI.
