A calendar of events would be drawn to ensure that the State legislature sits in session at least for 60 days a year, Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa said on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Thimmappa said the government has agreed to abide by the commitment. Though there is a law that legislature should sit in session for minimum of 60 days a year, it was not being followed.

He said the joint session of legislature will be held this month and the State Cabinet would finalise the dates soon.

On the controversy over legislators going on junkets in the name of study tours, he said a committee with the secretaries of the two Houses as its members had been constituted to frame guidelines to be followed on organising such tours.

The committee would submit its recommendations in 15 days, Thimmappa said.
