Students from different colleges of Karnataka have listed more than 50 demands urging political parties to include them in their election manifesto.

The “Students’ Manifesto’ enlists quality education, protection of children, better healthcare, focus on agriculture among others, as their demands. All the student representatives - about 80 of them - are first time voters.

The manifesto was prepared with the support of South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring (Sichrem), Indian Institute of Science, St Joseph’s Evening College and Samvada, an organisation for young people. The students will submit their manifesto to the political organisations shortly.

“We have been saddened by the behaviour of the political class. They contest election in the name of public service and once in power they neglect the welfare of the poor.

Hence we have prepared a manifesto that reflects the real concerns of the state,” said R Manohar, Head of Programmes, Sichrem, during a press conference on
Friday.
