Students popularise eco-friendly Ganesha idols

The students made clay Ganesha in the school in order to create awareness for green Ganesha.  The students who collected clay from the lake-side area on their own made Ganesha idols.

Interestingly, the pupil also brought vegetables to make vegetable dye and apply on the idols sending a loud and clear message — the chemical colours and plaster of paris made Ganesha idols are harmful for ecology.

They urged officials to put a blanket ban on the use idols made of chemicals.

“We will take these idols to our homes and install it. The message is clear. People should stop using chemical-based idols. One of the idols will also be installed in the school,” Vidyashree, a student said.

While, another student Harshitha said: “The chemical-based Ganesha idols spell danger to our lakes and living creatures in the tanks. The clay idols are safe to use,” she added.

Radhika, a teacher said such creative activity would bring awareness among both students and their parents. “It would also inspire others to go for eco-friendly idols.”
