The proposal to let Government Boys’ College grounds to a private enterprise for holding an exhibition has been shelved.

Thousands of students, on Tuesday staged a peace protest, in front of deputy commissioner’s office opposing the plan of letting the ground to a private party.

Protesters took out a procession in the thoroughfare of the City. Students leaders spoke on the occasion and warned of intensifying the protest, if their demand was not met.

The ground will not be used to hold expo, Ganesha festival and for any other private gathering. It will be let only under inevitable circumstances, promised Assistant
Commissioner Peddapaiah and Deputy Director of Public Education Department Prahalad Gowda.

The decision was taken in a meeting of  Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and officials of Education Department.

Peddapaiah said, the final permission to hold the expo was not given and the temporary permission is taken back.

DySP Sangappa Chalavadi, CPI Renukaprasad, SI Sardar and Prakash were in-charge of security arrangement.
