Students convinced people through the campaign that as the plastic remains disintegrated in soil for more than 100 years, the fertility of soil will be reduced.

Similarly, cattle and other animals will die, if they consume plastic. Meanwhile, burning plastic will cause ozone depletion and altogether plastic is a threat for the environment, children advocated.

Students requested public not to throw plastic in open places. They pleaded people to collect plastic and send it for recycling.

The Madikeri Town Municipality has introduced ban on plastic sale and use in the town. Municipality Chairman P D Ponnappa said that penalty will be levied from those who violate the rules.  Municipality Commissioner K Srikanth Rao, Member Unnikrishna, Codava Sahitya Academy President Aimundiyanda Rani Machaiah and others were present.
