Subsidies touch Rs 12,000 crore

The subsidies borne by the State government for various schemes has touched a whopping Rs 12,000 crore, said to be the highest ever.

The sectoral subsidy suggests that the largest burden on the State was footing power bills, followed by food subsidy and wavier of interest and loans availed from co-operative bodies. The recent announcement of Rs 4,042 crore subsidy on the rice scheme has taken a toll on the State’s finances. The least subsidy provided in the State is towards the industrial sector, which has received a paltry Rs 165 crore.
