Substandard endosulfan: Officer gets one year term

 The Judicial Magistrate First Class Court awarded one-year jail term and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Srinivas Reddy, compliance officer of KPR Fertilisers for manufacturing substandard endosulfan.

If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to spend an additional three months in jail.
Endosulfan manufactured by KPR Fertilisers contained chemicals in excess of the prescribed proportion and it was confirmed by laboratories in Bellary and Faridabad.

Based on the report, Assistant Agriculture Director and Pesticides Inspector Manjula B Reddy lodged a complaint against the company on January 10 last year.

Judge Lakshminarayana Bhat, after hearing the arguments, said it had been established that the company had violated the Insecticides Act, 1968, and pronounced the judgement.
Assistant Government Prosecutor B S Patil appeared for the government.
