Five people of a family from Mysuru were found dead on the outskirts of Gundlupet town during the wee hours of Friday in what appears to be a suicide pact. The bodies were found on a private land near ITI College in the town.

The deceased have been identified as Omprakash Bhattacharya (35), his wife Nikitha (26), his father Nagaraj Bhattacharya (65), mother Hemalatha (60) and son Arya Krishna (4). Nikita was said to be six months pregnant. Nagaraj Bhattacharya was an astrologer and they were residents of Dattagalli in Mysuru.

It is suspected that Omprakash might have taken the extreme step as he was under huge debt. He might have shot the family members on their foreheads and later shot himself in his mouth.

The incident might have occurred between 3.30 am and 4 am.

As the revolver was found near Omprakash’s body, the police suspect that he might have shot the others before ending his life.

Omprakash and his family members had come to Gundlupet four days ago in a car belonging to his friend. They had stayed at Nandi Residency in Gundlupet town and at a friend’s farmhouse in Yelchatti village, according to sources.
