Survey for railway line beginsThe rail connectivity to Kodagu will boost tourism, says Minister

The much awaited survey for railway line between Mysore-Kushalnagar was flagged off by the Union Minister for State Railways K H Muniyappa.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the survey is likely to be completed within three to four months.

The railway line work will be taken up within 12 months from the completion of the survey work.


A sum of Rs 600 crore will be utilised for laying the railway line between Mysore-Kushlanagr. The railway connectivity to Kodagu district will boost tourism in the district.

“Though an attempt was made to carry out the survey for the railway line in the past, the proposal was dropped as the project involves huge investment. However, in the interest of the growers and traders, it was decided to take up the work on railway line. At the same time, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had promised to bear 50 per cent of the cost of the project. Accordingly, several projects were taken up in the State. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has promised to bear 50 per cent of the cost of the project of Mysore-Kushalnagar railway line. The rail service to Kodagu will be started at any cost.”

“We wanted to carry out survey from Mysore to Madikeri. However, at present, the survey for railway line between Kushalnagar to Mysore will be started.”

MP H Vishwanath, MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan, Mysore-Chamundeshwari constituency MLA M Sathyanarayan, MLC M C Nanaiah, T John and South Western Chief Officer Adesh Sharma were present.
