Distributing cheques to beneficiaries of Suvarna Bhoomi scheme at Joint Agriculture Director’s office on Friday, he said that for a country like India, which is dependant on agriculture, farming should transform as a profitable venture, failing which the future of entire country will be at stake.

In Gujarat, he said there is an income of Rs 9,000 crore for the State through agriculture. “The income that goes to state exchequers in Gujarat has been increasing yearly. The model can be replicated in Karnataka too with the help of Suvarna Bhoomi scheme,” he said.

He said that through ‘Bhoo Chethana’ programme, the government intends to increase the yield. Under this programme, there is an aim to increase the yield by 40 per cent.

This has seen success in the State. MLA C T Ravi, Coir Development Board President Rekha Huliappa Gowda, Zilla Panchayat Vice-President Ranganath among others were present.
