Speaking with reporters here on Friday, Transport Minister R Ashoka said the move will give boost to the tourism industry during Dasara season.

Eco-friendly bus stand

The department has decided to construct an eco-friendly bus stand atop Chamundi hills in Mysore. The bus stand will have rain-water harvesting, solar power system and LED lights.
“It will be a unique bus stand where all facilities will be environment-friendly. It is estimated to cost Rs three crore,” he stated. Besides, the department has decided to grow jatropha plants in and around KSRTC bus stands across the State. It will be used in generating bio-fuel and the same can be utilised to run buses, he said.

Presently, 1,200 busses are being run with bio-fuel in the State, he added.

The KSRTC is introducing Volvo bus service on eight new routes from Bangalore, including Kodaikanal, Salem and Trissur, the minister said.
