The CMC meeting was chaired by CMC President P D Ponnappa. The meeting discussed to invite tender for supplying water with the help of tankers during summer. The meet decided to levy taxes for water supplied to home stays and rented houses on the model of commercial buildings.
In the meantime, the meet decided to invite tender to supply water in the city as Kootuhole will get dried and there will be severe shortage of drinking water during summer. It was decided to invite tender and fix rate for the rented tankers and use the tankers to supply water when the need arises.
Ponnappa said “At present there is no shortage of water in Kootuhole. The Kootuhole can supply water to the city for the next one and half months. If the inflow of the water reduces, then we have to supply according to the availability of the water.”
The recent unseasonal rains have filled Kootuhole. At the same time, we have collected additional quantity of water, he added.
BJP Member Sathish Pai said “in the backdrop of increasing number of tourists visiting Madikeri, the city will face shortage of water like last year. There is a need to take precautionary measures to supply water. It is better to invite tender to supply water at the earliest,” he suggested.
JD(S) member Muneer Ahammed said “the newly laid concrete road has developed cracks in the heart of the city.” In this background, the meeting decided to hold engineer, contractor and third person who tested the quality of the work responsible for the poor work. The meet also decided take back the money given for testing the quality of the work.
P D Ponnappa said the ward members should inspect the quality of the works. The meet decided to protect the CMC property by fencing it. The meet also decided to send a proposal to Slum Clearance Board to consider Mallikarjunanagara, Jyothinagara, Rajarajeshwarinagara and Putaninagara as slum areas and seek additional funds for its development.
The meet decided to give contract to Benaka services to clean the water storage tanks in the city. It also okayed the proposal to asphalt private bus stand. CMC Vice President Latha Bangera, Commissioner K Srikantharao were present.
