The High Court has refused to allow Bilal Ahmed Quta, a terrorism accused from Jammu and Kashmir who has lodged in the Central Prison, Bengaluru, since 2007, a custodial visit to his father who has brain tumour.

Justice A S Bopanna on Tuesday stated that since the accused faced trial in three cases, it would be inappropriate to grant him a custodial visit to meet his father in Jammu.

The judge disposed of the petition by giving the accused the liberty to approach the trial court.

Quta was booked under the Arms and Explosives Acts.
The government counsel comprising Vijayakumar Kumar A Patil, argued that Bilal was a “notorious” criminal who had plotted to bomb Bengaluru.

If the court allows him a custodial visit, there are chances he may flee and that he also faces threat to his life, the counsel stated.
