Tewari's death: Heart failure ruled out, mystery deepens

The mystery behind the death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer Anurag Tewari, who was found dead on the road near a government guest house here last month, deepened after heart failure was ruled out as a possible cause of death.

The report of the histopathological examination of Tewari's heart, which had been preserved along with his viscera and blood for chemical analysis, said that the officer did not suffer from any heart related ailment. Tewari's postmortem report was inconclusive though the police officials had suspected asphyxia as a possible cause of his death.

Police sources here said that the CBI, which formally launched its investigation into Tewari’s death a few days ago, was likely to visit Bengaluru to quiz the officer’s superiors. Tewari’s brother Mayank, who had alleged that the IAS officer had been murdered, is likely to accompany the CBI sleuths to Bengaluru.

The CBI team visited the room at the government guest house, where Tewari had been staying with an IAS officer friend of his. It also visited the spot where his body was found lying.

Various theories made the rounds after Tewari's death. While the family members alleged that he had fallen victim to a conspiracy hatched by his superiors, who could have been exposed by him, the police said that “drug overdose” could also be a cause of death.
