Three killed, one injured as car rams bridge parapet in Kittur

Three people were killed and one person was seriously injured when the car they were travelling by rammed a bridge parapet at Kadrolli village in Bailhongal taluk of the district, near Kittur Cross on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway on Wednesday.

The deceased are Ramesh Eranna Kamale, 32, his son Om Ramesh, 12, and his relative Kaushik Lakshman Ghatewar, 55, all residents of Pune. Kamale’s wife Pooja, who suffered severe head injuries, has been admitted to a private hospital in Belgaum. 

The driver of the vehicle, Balaji Lakshman, has escaped unhurt.

Police said Kamale was a member of Samruddhi Jeevan Multistate Cooperative Society. He was on his way back to Pune from Chitradruga along with his family, after taking part in a programme. 

Lost control

The driver lost control of the speeding car while crossing a bridge and rammed into the parapet.

 The impact of the collision was such that a door and a wheel of the vehicle separated from it and fell off the bridge. The vehicle spun around and came to a halt.

Superintendent of Police Chandragupta and other senior police officers visited the spot. The Kittur police have registered a case.
