Three labourers were killed when mud caved in on them while they were digging earth for road widening work at Desur village on the outskirts of Belagavi on Monday afternoon.

The victims have been identified Arjun Singh (32), Durugeshkumar (26) and Sukhan Ram (25) all natives of Jharkhand. Three others had a narrow escape in the incident.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Seema Latkar, six labourers were digging earth for the flyover construction at Desur when mounds of mud caved in on them. Three labourers were buried alive while three others managed to escape with minor injuries.

Fire and emergency workers, police personnel with the help of construction workers retrieved the bodies. The Belagavi Rural police have registered a case.
