The deceased have been identified as Madhu (25), Raghavi (22), and Ramya (20),  all related. They hailed from Electronics City and had arrived in YG Gudda village on Sunday to visit family.

According to the police, on Monday afternoon, eight members of the family, including the three women, visited the backwaters of the YG Gudda dam. They entered the water holding hands and began playing.

"Madhu’s leg got caught in the silt, and she began to drown, prompting the others to try and rescue her. However, three of them drowned,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, Somashekar, Ramya’s brother-in-law, immediately jumped into the water and managed to pull the three ashore, while also rescuing the other four. However, the three women were already dead, the police said.

The bodies were subsequently shifted to a morgue. An Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been registered by the Magadi police, and an investigation is underway. According to the police, Madhu and Raghavi were college students in Bengaluru.
