Parts of North Karnataka districts experienced heavy showers, accompanied by thunder and lightning, on Wednesday. The showers brought cheers to farmers, misery on a few families, who have suffered extensive damages to their houses.

Thunderstorm pounded Guledgudda and parts of the taluk in Bagalkot district. The showers have brought smiles on the faces of maize farmers.

Byadgi town in Haveri district has recorded 6.1 cm of rain in 12 hours ending Wednesday morning. Four houses in the taluk - 3 at Mallur and 1 at Dummihaal - have been damaged in the rain, Tahsildar Jayanna Talawar told DH.
Kaginele has registered 2.8 cm of rain. Byadgi had recorded 1.78 cm rain on Monday evening.

Kushtgi town and surrounding villages experienced good spells of thunderstorm on Tuesday night and Wednesday evening. Heavy rain in the last 24 hours has infused life into the streams and the rivulets in the region. The showers, however, would be of no help to maize and tur farmers as the crops have wilted owing to below par rain.

Four children were injured after a portion of their house collapsed following heavy rain at Shellagi village in Kalagi taluk, Kalaburagi district, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The injured have been identified as Sarojani Baburao (6), Kashinath Baburao (7), Sumangala Baburao (9) and Siddarth Mastanappa Kallahippagra(14). The house belonging to Baburao Sharanappa Gapanura caved in following heavy rainfall. Heavy rain lashed Kalaburagi city on Tuesday night.

Thunderstorm continued to pound Molkalmuru and Holalkere taluks in Chitradurga district. Chitradurga town also witnessed good spells of rain since Tuesday night.

Heavy showers also battered Kadur taluk in Chikkamagaluru district and Chikkaballapur town on Wednesday afternoon.
