Tiger deaths: CZA experts visit park

The team met experts from Veterinary College, Hebbal, scientists from Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAHVB) and a team of forest officials headed by Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests M N Jayakumar.

The meeting held at IAHVB office focussed on the events that led to the death of big cats. The visiting team went through postmortem reports and other test reports conducted following the death of the animals.

The team comprised Retired Veterinary Officer Dr L N Acharya, former veterinary officer Biological Park, Bhubaneshwar Nandankanan, Dr A B Srivastav from Department of Wildlife Health and Management at Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidhyalaya, Jabalpur (MP) and Dr R G Jani, Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anand (Gujarat) was headed by R S Bhaduria, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.

The team went through photographs and video films of the postmortem conducted on the tigers. “They saw the facilities available with us and were also satisfied with our efforts and analysis done over here,” said a senior official from IAHVB.

The visiting group is said to have sought details on whether samples have been sent to other institutes. “ We told them that three samples have been sent to Central Institute at Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh, Indian Veterinary Research Institute at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and Lady Curzon Institute at New Delhi”, said sources here.
