A 13-year-old tiger, Tippu died at the rescue centre of the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) on Wednesday after suffering from malignant cancer.

Tippu, born at BBP, suffered from squamous cell carcinoma, a type of malignant cancer since September 2014.

He was treated for the disease and was put on supportive therapy. Though the tiger responded to the treatment initially, his condition deteriorated in the past few months and he succumbed to the disease.

The visceral samples of the animal have been collected and sent to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biological for clinical examination.
