Samaj Parivartana Samudaya chief S R Hiremath has urged the State Government to order a time-bound inquiry by a retired Supreme Court judge into land-grabbing allegations against Sri Ravi Shankar Ashram in Bengaluru and to withhold land lease renewal or other permissions till the enquiry is completed.
In a press meet held here on Tuesday, Hiremath stated that, as per A T Ramaswamy Committee report, Sri Ravi Shankar Ashram is in third position on the list of grabbing public land.
“In 1985, 60 acres of land at Kaggalipur in Bengaluru South taluk was leased out for Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth (VVMVP), founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, for 30 years. The lease for VVMVP should not be renewed till the enquiry is completed,” he urged.
The Ashram allegedly encroached 10 acres of Udipalya tank at Kaggalipur village and it also purchased land from SC/ST community members, he added.
