Town Municipal Council (TMC) president N S Siddaramashetty was arrested on Tuesday on charges of abusing a woman police constable. He was later produced before the Judicial Munsiff First Class court.
Siddaramashetty had visited the Arsikere rural police station on May 29 and Gowramma, the constable, reportedly did not stand up as a mark of respect. This infuriated Siddaramashetty, who abused Gowramma in foul language. The constable filed a complaint with the police.
The town police arrested the TMC chief on Tuesday and produced him before the court. He was later released on conditional bail.
