Speaking to reporters after flagging off a new weekly Express train to Lucknow from Yeshwantpur, (Yeshwantpur-Lucknow Weekly Express, Train no 6503), Muniyappa said that the Railway Ministry belonged to all States. “Consultations have been held with governments in all States before arriving at a decision on the railway projects each one requires,” he said.

The Ministry has been people-friendly, he stressed adding that, “The Railways has not hiked the cost of passenger fares since 2004.”

Referring to the grievance expressed in some quarters following the extension of the Mangalore-Yeshwantpur Express to Kannur that a Karnataka train had been diverted to Kerala, the Minister promised that a train from Kerala would be extended to Mangalore shortly. “Only two promises made for Karnataka in the previous railway budget are yet to be fulfiled, the extension of the Mumbai-Karwar train to Mangalore and a new train between Yeshwantpur and Nizamuddin,” he said.

Foundation bridges for the doubling work between Mysore and Ramanagaram were being carried out and will be completed in two years, he added.
