MLA K G Bopaiah visits tribal hamlet area in Titimati in Gonikoppa on Thursday.
The forest department has decided to erect fences made out of train tracks at a cost of Rs three crore to control elephant menace in Titimati forest range, MLA K G Bopaiah said.
Paying a visit to Titimati forest tribal hamlet on Thursday, he said that a high level meeting has been convened in this regard and the officials have been directed to initiate the work.
Farmers in Titimati had staged a protest against the forest department two weeks ago and the MLA had assured the farmers that the government would do its best to safeguard farmers’ produce from wild elephants.
Leaders Cheppudira Cariappa, H T Umesh and Karunakara were present among others.
