A crucial meeting of BJP leaders to decide on the second phase of State cabinet expansion could not be held on Wednesday, as the two rival groups in the ruling party continued to armwrestle over sharing the 12 ministerial berths available.
The meeting did not materialise with former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa reportedly stating there was “no urgency” and that the meeting could be held at a later date as a “hurried decision” could spark off dissidence by the several aspirants for the 12 remaining vacancies in the ministry.
The rival group led by party State unit president K S Eshwarappa and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar are not taking the “delaying tactics” by the Yeddyurappa camp passively. The Shettar group is keen that the cabinet expansion be held on Thursday with seven to eight of the 12 vacancies being filled up.
The Shettar group has reportedly warned the Yeddyurappa group of resigning en masse if the cabinet was not expanded in the next couple of days.
