The tugboat, which had capsized off the coast here and was hampering the docking of ships at the Karwar port on October 6, has been cleared from the path of ships. Following this, commercial activities resumed at the port on Monday.
The driver of the tugboat, belonging to Mallikarjuna Shipping Company, had lost control of it, while it was pulling Reliance-2, a Singapore-based ship, near the lighthouse. Five persons in the tugboat had been rescued safely.
The shipping company had entrusted the work to pull the tugboat out of the water to a Mumbai-based firm. Cargo vessels could not call at the port for 21 days, after the tugboat had capsized.
This had resulted in losses amounting to lakhs of rupees to the department of ports.
The Royal Princess, a ship transporting bitumen, had been anchored near the lighthouse for the past three weeks. It docked at the port on Monday morning.
Another ship from Jordan, transporting rock phosphate, docked in the afternoon.
