According to a complaint filed before Manjeshwar police, Wilfred was on way to cover a programme at Manjeshwar when he noticed illegal sand mining near Bakrabail. He shot a few scenes and left for the programme at Manjeshwar. On his way back, a 15-member group waylaid him, took him to some isolated area, assaulted him and dropped him back at the main road after about two hours at 8 pm. He has been admitted in a hospital.
Manjeshwar police have registered a case. The reporters of the private channel alleged that the camera man was assaulted in retaliation to a recent story on illegal sand mafia in Karnataka- Kasargod border region. The incident was brought to the notice of the CM during his visit to Moodabidre.
